Good Afternoon Bridge Southern Africa families,

The students have arrived safely in Johannesburg! The flight was long but the kids spirits remained high. They are all eager to begin orientation and to start exploring their new home for the next month.

hey Molly and Adam -- I was on the SA 2009 WMI trip and yes, it changed my life! Tell your group they will never be the same :) I have stayed friends with Tshepo at the arts school ever since. I connect him with charities and such that can help the school and the children. Like we want to build a kitchen at the school this year. Can you email me directly when you are there this week? I need bits of info and some pix from eyes on the ground please. thanks for your help!! Jazmin West

Adam Aronovitz
Age: 29
Education: Tulane University, BA International Political Economics. MA University of Westminster (London) International Relations.
Windsor Mountain Experience: Bridge Puerto Rico 2006, Bridge Mexico 2007, Bridge Caribbean 2008-10.

Adam’s Bio:
Adam has committed himself to education both in and out of the classroom. He currently lives in Boston and teaches 6th grade math and leads an Outdoor Education program at the Mario Umana Middle School Academy in East Boston. He absolutely loves to travel and could not be more excited about being a co-leader on the Bridge Caribbean expedition for the third time. He has traveled extensively across the globe and likes nothing more than truly soaking up the culture in various countries and interacting with the local population. When Adam is not teaching or traveling or continuing his own education, you can find him participating in any out-of-doors activities from sailing to scuba diving and skiing to backpacking. To replenish his reserves for his high-energy lifestyle, Adam enjoys frequenting the many ethnic eateries in the Boston area, especially the fine establishments in Chinatown. Adam spent the past year traveling around the world, with an extended stay in India. He’s excited to share his adventures with his Caribbean Crew from last summer!

In his own words:
“Windsor Mountain is special to me because it’s a place where people can be themselves. Especially for youth (but staff and adults as well) it’s a safe and nurturing environment where people are able to shed all those unnecessary layers that school, work and other sectors of society force onto us. Windsor Mountain provides a unique atmosphere where people can decide what is important to them, how life should be lived, and then start living that way!!! It's that simple.

Molly Ryan
Age: 23
Education: Marquette University, BA cum Laude, Social and Cultural Sciences. University of the Western Cape, Service Learning Study Abroad Program. Red Cross Certified Lifeguard.
Windsor Mountain Experience: Molly is brand new to us!

Molly's Bio:
Molly is a traveling ice-cream lover bread in the Midwest. She was born in the small town of Westerville, Ohio into a family who encouraged risk taking, cultural immersion, and team building from the get-go. Molly’s parents didn’t bring the family to the beach on spring break; instead they went camping in the Black Hills, fishing off the coast of Alaska, or on Civil War Battlefield tours through the South. When she wasn’t tromping through all but 6 of the 50 states, Molly spent most of her time in a swimmer pool; she was a competitive swimmer until graduating from High School. Molly now concentrates her efforts towards yoga; She recently spent time in India training as an Ashtanga yoga instructor and is excited to share what she has learned on this summer’s Bridge South Africa trip! In 2008, Molly spent 6 months in Cape Town, South Africa Service-Learning at the Desmond Tutu Peace Center with Marquette University. South African culture transformed Molly’s worldview, opened her eyes to the power of national reconciliation, and fueled her desire to continue to absorb the lessons taught through immersion-based travel. Molly can’t wait to experience South African culture again, this time able to help facilitate each Windsor Mountain Student Traveler’s life-changing summer!

“To smell dinner off a street stand. To snack on fruits I can’t pronounce. To stomp in mountain rain puddles. To write letters across the sea. To share and remember. To realize this place isn’t so different; smiles don’t have to be translated. To save trinkets and treasures for the people who make my heart shine. I travel to understand. To understand myself and what is around me. I am an observer, a note taker, a memory catcher, a re-thinker. Travel allows me to create, and it pushes me to reassess. When I travel, I am transformed, I am open to what passes in front of my eyes and able to question what is certain to me; what I have been conditioned to think.”
